Easy-to-Tie Redi-Knot Unties Easily FARM HOME Miscellaneous 19-5-13 "You can use it anywhere you would normally use a bowline or square knot," says C.F. Marley, veteran farm writer and frequent contributor to FARM SHOW, about an invention of his, and the late R.F. Spinner, that he recently brought onto the market - the "Redi-Knot" knot-tying device. Marley says Redi-Knot is ideal for many farm uses. It's particularly handy in wet conditions where normal knots would be difficult to untie. "Farmers use them for tying down fertilizer or water tanks, loads of bales or other cargo, or even anchoring airplanes. It can be used with any kind of rope yet never gets too tight to be untied, not even if wet or muddy. And it's simple to tie," notes Marley. It consists of an aluminum or stainless steel barrel with a slot along one side. You simply pull the rope through the barrel, then pull an eyelet of rope up through the slot where it is held by a rubber choker and thread the loose end of the rope through the eyelet and around the barrel a couple times, then pull tight. "It's quicker than making a standard bowline and it's easy to make the knot by feel in the dark or even under water. Once the strain is off the rope, the rope simply backs off to untie," says Marley, who has lined up a manufacturer to produce and sell his Redi-Knot kit. A basic kit that includes two aluminum Redi-Knot barrels and 25 ft. of 3/8-in. dia. nylon rope sells for $12.60 (plus $3 post-age). Stainless steel kit is $14.60. Larger size units also available.
